University Builds Change Management Capability And Maturity

Long-term focus on the people side of change

The Situation

Over the past decade our client (a University) has focused on progressively building change management capability and maturity through a focus on the people side of change.

The Approach

The University’s change maturity was measured at the beginning of the engagement, a decision was also made on the change maturity goal. The gap between current and future desired change maturity levels was used to development the organisations Change Capability Strategy.

Our support has involved consulting assignments on programs and projects, plus coaching and mentoring support.

Our role on programs and projects is to:

  • partner with the program/project team
  • help to build the change team, and then provide coaching and mentoring
  • support leaders and managers to deliver and sustain the change/s.

We also have ongoing involvement with the University’s change community of practice.

The Result

Building Change Capability – The strong focus on change management for programs and projects is ensuring that:

  • changes are effectively articulated and understood
  • leaders and managers can successfully lead their teams through change
  • staff and students are able to embrace, adopt and use new ways of working and studying
  • change capacity and resilience is increasing.

Increasing Change Maturity – The University’s change management maturity level is increasing over time by focussing on:

  • educating leaders and managers, and supporting them to lead change
  • the use of a consistent change management methodology
  • building a significant group of change management practitioners who support programmes, projects and BAU changes
  • extending the reach and understanding of change management.

If you would like to discuss the opportunity for one of our team to assist your organisation please get in touch.

Note: The  Prosci Maturity Model was used to assess change capability at the beginning and again at key milestones to measure progress toward the university’s change capability and maturity goals.
